Damballa CSP Automatically Detects Subscriber Infections and Correlates Threats to be Remediated with Microsoft Anti-Malware Technology
ATLANTA – May 26, 2011 – Damballa Inc., the company transforming the fight against cyber threats, announced that the most recent release of its cyber threat detection solution for communications service providers, Damballa® CSP 1.6, now automatically detects and correlates subscriber infections with threats that can be remediated using Microsoft's anti-malware technology. Combined with in-browser notification, redirection, and/or 'walled garden' technologies, subscribers can now be notified by their internet service provider (ISP) of a threat and directed to the Microsoft Safety Scanner, allowing the subscriber to easily remove the infections.
"ISPs are increasingly adopting Microsoft's anti-malware technology like Safety Scanner to help their subscribers remove malicious software from their PCs," says Jeff Williams, principal group program manager at Microsoft. "Combined with the Damballa CSP threat detection solution, ISPs can now automate the detection and removal of dangerous infections from their subscribers' assets. This represents a powerful tool for online safety and a big win for ISPs in the effort to provide a better customer experience and a safer Internet."
"Damballa CSP automates the detection of subscriber infections by monitoring the DNS activity inside a carrier's network," says Stephen Newman, vice president of product management for Damballa. "With the new release, Damballa CSP now automates the correlation of the threats we detect with the threats that can be removed using Microsoft's anti-malware technology. The ISP can then automatically notify subscribers of the infection, identify the potential threat, and automatically direct them to the Microsoft technologies in order to remediate the infection. Damballa CSP will then continue to monitor for infections for that subscriber to ensure that the threat has been removed."
Damballa will host a webcast titled "Detecting Cyber Threats and Botnets in Service Provider Networks" on Thursday, June 2, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. Eastern. Interested parties can register here: http://landing.damballa.com/CSP_Webcast.html?campaignID=70170000000Xbwe
